Hand Crafted Estate Wines

About Us
Our family and friends have come together to produce handcrafted wines from our estate vineyards and a
few select others in the Ramona Valley. We focus on crafting premium quality wines, and that, we
firmly believe, begins in the vineyard. We are confident you will taste the quality and care
expressing itself in each glass of our wines. Our vineyards and winery are located in a high valley
at the east end of the Ramona Valley, a designated American Viticultural Area in central San Diego
County, California. We look forward to sharing our wines with you.
Old Julian Vineyards and Winery is scheduled to open on June 15, 2019.

Our Vineyards
We planted our first vineyard in 2013 and continue to expand our estate vines in order to take
advantage of the valley's natural growing advantages as well as our unique growing conditions.
The vineyards are located in a high valley, at 2000 feet elevation. The valley runs east and
west, allowing daily coastal breezes to flow through the grapes on typically hot summer days.
The fruit in our vineyards enjoy a thirty-plus degree diurnal shift in the daily temperature
during the growing season, allowing the grapes to cool overnight. The soil in our vineyards is
an ideal loam, providing an excellent growing environment for our vines.
To ensure intense flavors in our wines we keep the fruit on our vines at optimum levels to avoid over cropping. We use a double cordon, with vines set six feet apart, and a vertical shoot positioning (VSP) trellis system, giving our root systems plenty of room to assure adequate moisture and nutrient access. We grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Muscat.
